this is dire news for the romney camp, potentially ten points down in ohio with less than six weeks to go until the election. we're going to play some tape here, you'll see where he was a short time ago, at an appearance east of cleveland, exact location, bedford heights, ohio. he's talking about unemployment and federal government waste. take a look. >> we have 47 different federal government training programs and they report to eight different agencies. they spent $18 billion on these programs. but too often they don't match the needs of our people. so i want to take those dollars and send them back to ohio, or each state, so they can fashion the programs to meet the needs of their own workers. >> and we told you again, live pictures, mitt romney, right here. we're going to look at this poll because this is the one that shows romney now ten points down in ohio. and, boom, here you go. this is from the new york times, cbs news, quinnipiac university. the question they posed, if the election were held today, for whom would you vote. president obama receiving 53%. mitt romney 43%, ten-point diff

is 3.5%, plus or minus on this poll. take a look at the next series of charts. romney wins hands down on who will be better to invest for you. who do you want to coach your favorite team and who would you want to hang out with? about five to two americans pick obama. that may be part of the reason for obama's support here. another fascinating issue here is obama looks to have neutralized what would normally be a republican edge on the issue of taxes. who will increase your taxes? 45% of the public says obama. 42% say romney. you can see the reverse here on income groups. poorer people think that obama will not raise their taxes. they think romney will. the reverse when it comes to wealthier people. this is interesting. one other thing i want to show you is change in racial support. latinos, compared to our june survey, more support for obama on the economy. african-americans overwhelming support. romney is winning the independent vote, but not in enough numbers to overwhelm this huge advantage that obama has among non-whites. you can read all about this from our exclusive all-america

. now, how is it that mitt romney can't get that message down? how is it that he can't explain that to people? he's a very brilliant guy. what's the problem here? >> well, it is a good plan and you know he's got the good mechanics behind his plan and he's had a tough month with respect to being stuck on talking about process questions a lot. and frankly, i think republicans are ready like steve said for a choice election. i think the country is ready for a choice election. and would he have moving would moving to the next phase where romney has to articulate the choice if our country.next phas romney has to articulate the choice if our country. i think he's prepared to do that. you look at the advertising strategy they adopted just yesterday. it's mitt talking more specifically and more directly to middle class voters about how his plan whether create jobs. that's a preview of coming ahead.create jobs. that's a preview of coming ahead. >> let me interject one thing. i've seen those ads. i think they look like boiler plate blah, blah, blah, i don't think they convince anything.

. as mitt romney fumbled his way down the campaign trail. so first this lack luster rnc convention set him back. and then he completely bungled his response to the libya situation and that didn't help. but then came the biggest mistake of all. 47% rant caught on tape. now, national polls are not always the best way to understand the state of the election. and for that, you've got to go to the swing states. and sorry, mitt, but the pictures there are not much better. a "new york times" cbs quinnipiac poll shows that big margins exist among likely swing state voters. in pennsylvania, the president is up big. 54% to romney's 42%. he leads romney 53% to 44% in florida and in ohio, he leads by a full 10 points! 53% to 43%. the last one is really important because if history is any guide the road to the white house really does run through ohio. no republican has ever won the white house without winning the state of ohio. no democrat has done it for over a half a century. so both candidates are in the state today and not

citizen. i would imagine he's union. i would hope he is. and they tracked down one of mitt romney's sanitation workers. let's give a listen to this audio. >> my name is richard hayes. i pick up mitt romney's trash. we're called the invisible people. he doesn't realize -- a big health issue not picking up trash. residents do come out and shake our hands. sometimes they give us hugs and thank us for the job we're doing. tell us we're doing a good job and keep up the good work. picking up 15, 16 times by hand. that takes a toll on your body. when i'm 55, 60 years old my body will be broke down. romney doesn't care about that. >> not to worry about the -- >> john: he doesn't mean picking up 15, 16 tons at once. i'm kind of slow on these things. >> i hope not. >> john: i think he means cumulatively over a day or a week. that's just from ann's side of the week. i don't know why this guy wasn't invited to speak at the democratic convention. it would have been pretty smart. so this is -- i don't know if it is an ad

that whole thing down. >> if it's a legitimate rape. akin apologized, but mitt romney asked him to drop out of the race. >> i can't defend what he said. i can't defend him. >> akin defied romney and stayed in the race. here we are. now newt gingrich claims mitt romney will simply change his mind in a month or so. >> my expectation would be in the crunch in october, romney is going to be for the entire ticket and for todd akin. how many people are going to split their ticket and have a romney/mccaskill ticket? >> the republicans, i guess you could say, are in somewhat of a bind. romney can reverse his decision, he can defy his party and support a controversial candidate or write off control of the senate. meanwhile, another senate candidate has gone completely off script. video surfaced showing candidate tommy thompson saying he'd do away with medicare and medicaid. >> who better than me, who's already finished one of the sbiet mment programs to do away with medicaid and medicare? let's block-grant what the state has and allow the states to determine what's going to go into medicaid. >> tamm
